Mumbai Floods Alert: Yellow Warning Issued as Heavy Rainfall Grips the City

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, warning of
moderate to heavy rainfall across the city. As monsoon activity picks up pace, civic
authorities have been put on high alert to prevent Mumbai floods, waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and
related emergencies.

Areas affected by Mumbai floods

Several parts of Mumbai witnessed intermittent but intense showers throughout the day,
leading to traffic snarls, waterlogging in low-lying areas, and slower local train operations on
some routes. Areas like Dadar, Andheri, Kurla, and Sion reported water accumulation,
causing delays in daily commutes. While there have been no major disruptions so far, the
BMC has activated its control rooms, deployed pumping machines, and instructed ward
offices to stay on standby in case the rainfall intensifies overnight.

According to the IMD, Mumbai and surrounding regions are likely to receive heavy rainfall
over the next 48 hours, accompanied by occasional thunder and strong winds. The yellow
alert serves as a warning for citizens to remain cautious, especially in flood-prone zones.
Authorities have urged residents to avoid venturing into waterlogged areas, keep emergency
numbers handy, and stay updated through official weather bulletins. Schools in some areas
may shift to online classes if rainfall increases, and fishermen have been advised not to
venture into the sea.
