Karnataka Bans Kamal Haasan’s ‘Thug Life’ Over Controversial Language Remark

Kamal Haasan‘s upcoming film Thug Life has been banned from release in Karnataka
following his controversial statement that “Kannada is born out of Tamil.” The Karnataka
Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) announced the ban, demanding a public apology from
the actor. Despite Haasan’s clarification, the KFCC insists on an apology before lifting the
ban.

Amid growing pressure, Kamal Haasan stood by his statement and clearly said that he will
not apologize. He explained that his words were based on historical language roots and
were not meant to insult anyone. However, his refusal to say sorry has further angered
Kannada groups, who now insist that Thug Life should not be released in Karnataka unless a
formal apology is made.
