Kanpur Prepares for Monsoon: Massive Flood Mock Drill Conducted Across District

As monsoon rains draw closer, Kanpur Nagar district authorities carried out a large-scale
flood disaster management mock drill on June 26, 2025. The drill, conducted across key
flood-prone tehsils, aimed to test the region’s emergency response systems and boost
preparedness in case of heavy rainfall or river overflow.

The mock drill was organized across three major tehsils in Kanpur Nagar — Bilhaur,
Ghatampur, and Kanpur Sadar — all known for their vulnerability during heavy monsoons.
The operation stimulated various emergency scenarios such as rising river levels, village
evacuations, rescue missions, and temporary shelter setups. Teams from the district
administration, NDRF, SDRF, police, and health departments participated actively, ensuring a
coordinated effort that mirrored real flood situations.

District officials stated that the drill was not just a routine exercise, but a critical step toward
enhancing the city’s readiness for any flood-related emergencies during the upcoming
monsoon season. The aim was to evaluate coordination between departments, identify gaps
in response strategies, and increase awareness among local residents. Authorities
emphasized that these drills play a vital role in minimizing damage and saving lives when
real disasters strike.
